- O Windows não poderia ser "criado do zero", pois isso causaria problemas de compatibilidade e há muitos usuários que utilizam hardware antigo. O Windows Vista fez isso com os drivers de vídeo, criando um novo sistema gráfico muito mais robusto e eficiente, mas nem todos os parceiros conseguiram disponibilizar drivers para suas placas de vídeo até a época do lançamento do Vista.

- A Microsoft trabalha em conjunto com as empresas fabricantes de hardware (OEM) para que não hajam problemas ou incompatibilidades com os computadores fabricados.

- Drivers de periféricos desenvolvidos para o Windows Vista funcionarão perfeitamente no Windows 7, pois o novo sistema operacional não introduzirá nenhuma novidade em relação aos drivers. O Windows Vista introduziu diversas mudanças e melhorias nos drivers, que serão aproveitadas no Windows 7
